The Great Flood of October 23rd, 1878

On October 21, 1878, a hurricane passed Cuba and headed east of Key West, Florida. On the evening of October 22, it made landfall in North Carolina. The storm gained speed after landfall and moved north. On the morning of October 23, it passed Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Both the Delaware and the Schuylkill overflowed and flooding occurred,  Scores of people were injured or died, and properties were lost.
