Philadelphia Sketch Club, Founded

In 1860, this day, November 20th, one of America’s oldest artists’ club, was founded in Philadelphia.  The Philadelphia Sketch Club, as it’s known, seeks to “provide a community for visual artists, appreciation of the visual arts and visual arts education.”

The cCub was founded by George F. Bensell, Edmund Birckhead Bensell, Edward J. McIlhenny, Henry C. Bispham, John L. Gihon, and Robert Wylie.  All were students at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
