USS New York (ACR-2)

In 1888, the US Congress authorized $ 3.5 million dollars for the construction of New York, a US Navy armed cruiser.   She was designed by the Navy Department and on August 28, 1890, the contract for her construction was awarded to William Cramp & Sons of Philadelphia.

On December 2nd, 1891, the new armored cruiser launched at Cramp’s shipyard.
