Color Comes to Philly TV

On the 18th of December, 1953, WPTZ (used between 1941 to 1956), Channel 3, in Philadelphia presented a Felso commercial.  It was the first color telecast seen on a local station.

On this Friday, at about 11:15 am, the FCC issued to WPTZ its official color experimental license which authorized the transmission of color video on the station. Three hours later, color television hit the airwaves in Philadelphia with a color commercial made up of slides during a program called Skinner’s Spotlight.
