George’s Hill Gift

On December 23rd, 1868, John and Rebecca George, presented 83 acres of land, known as “George’s Hill,” to the city of Philadelphia as an addition to Fairmount Park.  In 1876, this segment, together with the Lansdowne, became the site of the Centennial Exposition.
