George Mifflin Dallas, who once served as Vice President under James K. Polk, died at his home in Philadelphia on December 31st 1864. He died of an apparent heart attack.
In addition to serving as Vice President of the United States from 1845 to 1849, Dallas also was Mayor of Philadelphia from 1828 to 1829. He also served as a United States Senator from Pennsylvania from 1831 to 1833. A Minister to Russia from 1837 to 1839, and to Great Britain from 1856 to 1861.
