Eisenhower Dollar

On this day, January 25th, in 1971, the Philadelphia mint,  which was created from the need to establish a national identity and the needs of commerce in the United States, struck its first trial strike of the Eisenhower Dollar.  The coin, designed by Frank Gasparro, depicted President Dwight D. Eisenhower on the obverse.
